In August May 2019 I photographed Derek and Lesley’s wedding at The Reading Room. This venue is a converted barn. located in the village of Alby between historic Aylsham and the beautiful seaside town of Cromer.

I first met the couple when they visited my studio for a consultation to discuss their photography requirements. They required a 6 hour package to cover their guests arriving up until their first dance with a video of their ceremony.
Derek and Lesley explained that their special day would be held inside a converted barn in Alby. I had heard about this venue so I made a visit about one month before their marriage to take a look.
The owners welcomed me on a beautiful sunny day so I took some photographs. Several feature on their website.

The Wedding Day
As you can see from the gallery images above, both Derek and Lesley had a wonderful day. They purchased an arch of flowers to put by the entrance door. This was a super feature to use as a frame to capture many groups as they arrived.
The weather was a mixture of sunny and overcast. It was ideal for my purposes.
The bride and bridesmaids were welcomed at the house by their hosts. After taking some still images I set up to video the ceremony. I used my DSLR for the video and the results were stunning.
After the ceremony I took most of the group images and then the empty venue to showcase the floral displays that Lesley had made.
As the guests entered the venue and eat I got some more images. Once the speeches were over I took a small break to have some food.
Afterwards I took the Bride, Groom, Best Man and Bridesmaids to a field by the car park to get some super images with a nice backdrop.
A photo booth set up in the garden gave me an opportunity to photograph the guests in silly hats, wigs and glasses.
At the end of the day I photographed the cutting of the cake and the first dance.
The Reading Room As A Venue To Get Married
I have visited many venues in Norfolk and this barn is one of my favourites. The private grounds are extremely romantic with beautiful flower beds. The church of St Ethelbert also provides a spectacular backdrop.
The barn is also striking with a lovely spacious modern bright interior and gothic arch windows.
