As a professional Norwich and Norfolk photographer, I love taking portraits of people in vintage clothing. At the start of 2013 experts predicted this style of clothing as the modern fashion trend.
It is amazing to see how many old style clothing shops have been set up in the high streets and online. Norwich has many shops just off the main high streets and they always seem to be very busy and popular with the locals and tourists. What is the definition of vintage clothing? It seems that it is clothes from the 1920’s to twenty years before the present day. The era of the 1940’s and 1950’s seem to be the most popular.
Many original classic clothes are difficult to obtain. Due to high demand prices are at a premium. I recently photographed a hen party at Whitlingham Hall that had a vintage clothing theme and discovered from those attending that reproduction clothing is more reasonably priced. It was amazing to see so many different styles and to see so many glamorous looking women together in one location.
Vintage tailoring is beautiful, with bold colours, flattering lines, swing dresses, flouncy petticoats, pencil skirts, wiggle dresses, nipped waists and other amazing looks. Many celebrities such as Kelly Brook and Kate Moss wear this look. This theme is also very popular for hen parties and weddings. Below is a selection of images.
