1. Testimonial by Matt Sanders
“David was approachable, professional, and very easy to work with. He made me feel at ease throughout, and even managed to nurture some genuine smiles from me. Excellent mix of studio and location shots also, helping to make a varied portfolio. Looking forward to working with you again”.
2. Testimonial by Natalie Lauren
“I have now worked with David on 3 shoots and am always hugely impressed with his work. His knowledge of the local area is fantastic so I know I will always get a multitude of backdrops which match the mood of the shoot. We always coordinate before hand with Pinterest so that we are both on the same page regarding inspirations and what we want.
On set he is great at making you feel comfortable and confident. He is more than happy to help with poses and give feedback on facial expression so you get the shots you want. In addition, the way David edits the photos are brilliant – very natural and always ensuring you look your best. My family and agent have been consistently impressed with his work and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending him to anyone, based on the commercial jobs and model portfolio work we have done together. Thank you so much David” Natalie Lauren (Model)

5. Fashion Photography in Norfolk and Norwich
I love doing fashion photography particularly in outdoor locations and especially on the beach. I have several part time models, both male and female who have modelled and now work with me on commercial photo shoots. Most of this type of work is in the beauty and clothing industry. It is an excellent way to get experience, earn some money and it is also the perfect way to obtain a variety of new images for your portfolio.
Ideally for beauty and fashion work it is best if you do not have any tattoos or piercings (except for ears and belly button).
6. My Approach
I love photographing people and putting them as ease through friendly discussion. I also ensure that my clients feel confident and that they are happy and relaxed during a photo shoot. It is only in this environment that truly great portraits can be obtained. I also love the moments when I can capture a fleeting expression or a special look in the eyes to provide images that have real impact on the viewer.
Fortunately both Norfolk and Suffolk has scenery that changes within a few miles. The choices for your shoot include the city of Norwich with its urban landscape and parks, towns, villages, Broadland, Breckland, woods and the wide sandy beaches of the North Norfolk Coast. Happisburgh is one of my favourite locations.
The beach and cliffs from Cromer to Overstrand and in the other direction to Sheringham are other ideal locations.

However, you don’t always need to find a great location for a photo shoot. As demonstrated above, with a simple outfit, a backdrop like a hay bale can be used to enhance your images.
Southwold in Suffolk with it’s pier, beach huts and sandy beach is another great location to shoot. Nearby Walberswick and Covehithe are also other suitable and quieter locations.
To complete your portfolio you will also need some excellent heads shots.
7. Advice
Your portfolio needs to show a variety of images from extreme close up to full length. It also needs to show your character and best features. Spend some time moving to different locations and changing clothes because that is the only way you will get variety in your images.
Don’t make the mistake of having a portfolio wearing only one outfit in studio with a white backdrop. Ideally your portfolio will be varied and each image needs to be unique. It should show you wearing an item of clothing only once. Your potential clients will want to see your figure so wear some figure hugging clothes and not too many loose skirts or long dresses.
So the more changes and variety of clothing you bring on your photo shoot the better. Avoid clothes with strong dark patterns. Plain pastel colours of pink, blue, yellow, green, grey and white work best. However, pastel colours with a light pattern can also work as demonstrated below.

You do not need to spend lots of money on new clothes. Many models borrow items of clothing from friends and boutique shops. It is also best to travel as light as possible whilst on a photo shoot. I can give you some ideas on how to make the best use of the clothes that you already have.
Props are also useful to bring along such as a scarf, hat, sunglasses, jewellery or a parasol. The images on my website will help to give you some ideas on the types clothing and props to bring with you.
Also use my website to learn about the poses that like and then practice them in advance of your photo shoot.

8. Time of year and how to get a fantastic model portfolio
The best time of the year to undertake photo shoots is between April and October. Spring provides lots of scenery with flowers, Summer is great for a beach shoot. Furthermore, Autumn provides lots of rich colours and a golden light. Good light is essential on a model photo shoot. Hence a bright, overcast, warm day is best.
Golden hour just before the sun sets is also a great time for a photo shoot.
To get fantastic results you will need to put in a lot of effort. Frequent clothes changes, wearing clothes that do match the the weather conditions and frequent topping up of your makeup is all part of the experience.
I provide commercial photography for my regular clients. Sometimes models are required to wear beautiful dresses and other clothes. Models normally get a free makeover (hair and makeup) and the use of accessories such as flowers. You can see examples in my portfolio. These occasions also provide an excellent opportunity to add images to your model portfolio and whilst made up, to do your own photo shoot afterwards.
